Polybag Q´s
PKGING.com carries a wide variety of polyethylene and polypropylene flat or gusseted bags, known as polybags. Our polybags come in all sizes, with numerous thickness, sealing, anti-static, and labeling options.
How to Choose the Right Polybag
Choosing the right polybag depends upon you packaging application. The bag’s thickness determines its strength. But, before you decide on the thickness you need, consider the following:
- The item(s) the bag will contain. What is the size of the item and its weight? For example, a heavy, medium-sized item requires a thicker bag than a light, large-sized item.
- How much protection does your item need? If your item is delicate, or easily scratched, use a thicker bag.
- What is the length of time the bag will be used? If you want the bag to be reusable, you need a thickness of at least 2mils.
How to Determine Mil Strength
The term “mil” is used to describe the thickness of plastic products such as polybags. A higher mil means a thicker and stronger bag. A mil is a unit of thickness equal to one thousandth of an inch. To convert mil to inches, take the mil and divide by 1,000. In other words, a 2 mil bag is .002 inches thick.
